What are we working to protect?

Are we then serving a system rather than

a)  God

b)  neighbour

“Now it happened that He went through the grainfields on the Sabbath; and as they went His disciples began to pluck the heads of grain. And the Pharisees said to Him, “Look, why do they do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” But He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and hungry, he and those with him: “how he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the showbread, which is not lawful to eat, except for the priests, and also gave some to those who were with him?” And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. “Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”” Mark 2:23-28, NKJV.

Showbread   NOT NOT NOT, lawful to eat it!

Against the LAW!

NOT the right way of doing it!

NOT the law prescribed way!

But David ate as did those who were with him.

Are we serving a system of religion?

Are we serving a system of churchianity?

Or are we serving God and people?

Do we get more bent out of shape about a law being broken than the cry of a human heart?

Or can we even hear the cries of humanity as we work diligently to uphold our religious systems?

“Now it happened on another Sabbath, also, that He entered the synagogue and taught. And a man was there whose right hand was withered. So the scribes and Pharisees watched Him closely, whether He would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against Him. But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, “Arise and stand here.” And he arose and stood. Then Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy?” And when He had looked around at them all, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he did so, and his hand was restored as whole as the other. But they were filled with rage, and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.” Luke 6:6-11, NKJV.

The religious leaders:  “watched Jesus closely.”

They were in attack mode… Funny no one (other than Jesus) was paying attention to the poor guy with the withered hand—they were looking to find fault in Jesus.  The cry of the human heart was not heard—they were working hard at being religious.

Just being honest here:  I just commented to my wife— boy there are a LOT of watch-dogs online now.  Everyone is wrong.  Everyone is preaching error.  There is this huge portion of internet writers that are attacking every ministry known.  And now I am wondering.  Are we protecting our religious systems so purposefully and passionately that we have forgotten about the man with the withered hand?  Are we working so hard at correcting we no longer hear the cries of humanity?

They watched Jesus closely—to see if he would heal the withered hand.  Reason?  “That they might find an accusation against Him.”  Wow—like why not support Jesus’ healing ministry instead?  Why not pray along with Jesus?  Why not pray FOR the guy with the withered hand instead?

So now I ask you Jesus:  where am I protecting my religiosity ?   Where are there unjust social structures in my life that I am missing?
