Which Road will you travel?
Four Roads: You Chose
I have been quite drawn lately to the idea of pilgrimage or journey. So I like using the terminology of spiritual journey. I often ask people how are they doing, or where are they on their journey.
As on a journey—of any description— there are road choices to make. In your spiritual journey there are four roads to be mindful of.
Road choice # 1: God’s best
This road is not necessarily smooth and easy, and may be even challenging—but nevertheless it is progressive. This is the best road and it is going somewhere. There is forward movement. You are heading somewhere. You are going places. You are not side-tracked. You are not lost. The end result is fabulous! It is incredibly rewarding. It will make you breathless for a long period of time. You will be awarded treasures! If you travel on your journey on God’s agenda, listening and responding to God, you will progress according to God’s divine help and direction.
Road Choice # 2: Your ways
Now you love your ways, because you love you. You spend a fair amount of time with you and you tend to get along pretty well with you. Your ways reveal your choices. Your ways reveal your decisions, your abilities, your talents, and your understanding. However, I must warn you, your progress will be slow. Your purpose and destiny might never be found. You are not necessarily lost but you are heading across a vast expanse of water in a canoe.
Road Choice # 3: Your Flesh
Your flesh is the kind of actives, choices and decisions that arise from your fallen nature, your old ways, and the culture of the world. This is you at your worst—and making choices and decisions when you are at your worst. For instance, harbouring unforgiveness or being angry, and in that state or condition making a decision or choice. In your journey your flesh will detour your forward progression. You will be taking a useless rabbit-trail that will not help your progress in any fashion.
Road Choice # 4: Satan/demonic influence
These ways are down right evil. This does not slow your progression, nor detour your progression, this actually puts you into reverse. This is succumbing to lies and taunts of the enemy of your soul. If you listen to his lies he has the intention of not only stopping your progression, he wants you in reverse!
Your progression on your spiritual journey is very important! As you learn to listen to the Lord, obey him and walking in faith, your journey will be very successful. The best part is finishing well!
Philippians 3 (NKJV) 12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
