Springing Up
You are probably familiar with the story in John chapter four where Jesus is interacting with the Samaritan woman at the well. In Jesus' dialogues with the woman, Jesus challenges the woman to seek what I will call an eternal water springing up from within. This eternal water springing up within is juxtaposed to the water in the well. The well of water becomes the centre piece of the dialogue. Jesus asks for water---but then offers water. Jesus water is eternal; the woman's water is drawn from the well they are sitting around. The woman's water will eventually lose its thirst quenching ability. Eventually, you will get thirsty again, and need another drink from the well. Jesus boldly asserts: "But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life (John 4:14)."
